I AM. I CAN. I WILL.
If you've begun exploring the chakra system, you've already encountered the Root Chakra and Sacral Chakra, the first two energy centers in the seven-chakra system. The Root Chakra introduces us to grounding, stability, and foundation, while the Sacral Chakra brings movement, emotion, creativity, connection, and flow.
Known in Sanskrit as Manipura (pronounced mah-nee-POO-rah), the Solar Plexus Chakra is traditionally associated with the element of Fire and is commonly connected with will, confidence, determination, transformation, self-trust, and discernment.
If the Root Chakra establishes our foundation and the Sacral Chakra connects us with emotion, creativity, and flow, the Solar Plexus Chakra brings confidence, will, and self-trust into focus.
The Solar Plexus Chakra provides a framework for exploring these qualities and developing greater self-awareness.
What Is the Solar Plexus Chakra?
The Solar Plexus Chakra is the third of the seven primary chakras and is traditionally associated with the navel and upper abdominal region.
In Sanskrit, it is known as Manipura, commonly translated as "city of jewels." Within contemporary chakra teachings, Manipura is commonly associated with confidence, will, determination, purpose, transformation, self-trust, and discernment.
The Solar Plexus Chakra brings us into deeper awareness of our inner strength and our ability to direct our lives according to what matters to us.
How Do You Pronounce Manipura?
Manipura - Pronounced: mah-nee-POO-rah
The emphasis is placed on the third syllable: POO.
Where Is the Solar Plexus Chakra Located?
The Solar Plexus Chakra is traditionally associated with the navel and upper abdominal region, commonly described around the area between the navel and the lower portion of the sternum. As with the other chakras, this represents an energetic location within a subtle-body system rather than a physical anatomical structure.
What Color Is the Solar Plexus Chakra?
The Solar Plexus Chakra is commonly represented by the color yellow in the contemporary seven-chakra system.
Yellow is often associated with illumination, confidence, vitality, awareness, and transformation.
It also creates a natural progression through the first three chakras:
Red grounds.
Orange flows.
Yellow ignites.
As with the other chakra colors, the familiar rainbow sequence belongs primarily to contemporary chakra systems and is not universal across every historical chakra tradition.
Which Element Is Associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra?
Element: Fire
Fire is the traditional element associated with Manipura. Fire provides warmth, illumination, transforms, generates energy and movement.
This makes Fire a powerful symbol for the Solar Plexus Chakra, supporting the transformation that our inner strength fuels, our will to move forward and our confidence to meet challenges with greater self-trust.
The Solar Plexus Chakra is therefore closely connected with the way we develop, direct, and express our personal strength.
Traditional Symbol
The Solar Plexus Chakra is traditionally represented by a ten-petaled lotus containing a downward-pointing triangle associated with the Fire element.
The triangle forms an important part of Manipura's traditional symbolic imagery, while the ten-petaled lotus surrounds it. Together, these symbols represent the transformative and dynamic qualities traditionally associated with this chakra.
Number of Lotus Petals
The Solar Plexus Chakra is traditionally depicted with ten lotus petals.
The ten petals form an important part of Manipura's traditional symbolic structure. As with the other chakras, interpretations of the deeper symbolism associated with the petals can vary across texts and lineages.
The ten-petaled lotus can be appreciated as part of the traditional visual language of Manipura without reducing its symbolism to one universal interpretation.
Seed Mantra (Bija Mantra)
The traditional seed mantra, or Bija Mantra, associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra is: RAM
Pronounced: rahm
Within chakra and yogic practices, RAM is associated with Manipura and its connection to the Fire element. It may be incorporated into meditation, breathwork, visualization, or mantra practice as a way of bringing focused awareness to this energy center.

Confidence
Self-Trust
Will
Determination
Purpose
Discernment

Healthy Boundaries
Transformation
These qualities connect with our ability to know ourselves, make decisions, recognize our strengths, and move forward with confidence. The Solar Plexus Chakra is often explored through self-trust, decision-making, and our ability to stand firmly in what we know. It can reflect the way we respond to challenges, make choices, establish boundaries, and follow through on what matters to us. This can involve learning when to be assertive, when to listen, when to stand firmly in our values, and when to reconsider our approach.

When the Solar Plexus Chakra is described as functioning harmoniously, many people associate it with qualities such as:
Healthy confidence

When the Solar Plexus Chakra May Feel Out of Balance
Rather than viewing a chakra as simply "blocked," many practitioners recognize that our energetic experiences can fluctuate throughout life.
When the Solar Plexus Chakra may need additional support, some individuals describe experiences such as:
Emotional Experiences
Low confidence
Feelings of powerlessness
Difficulty trusting yourself
Excessive need for control
Difficulty asserting yourself
Shame surrounding personal choices
Feeling easily intimidated
Mental Experiences
Self-doubt
Indecision
Difficulty moving forward
Excessive perfectionism
Constantly second-guessing yourself
Difficulty recognizing your strengths
Feeling disconnected from your sense of purpose
Physical Experiences
Within many holistic traditions, the Solar Plexus Chakra is associated with the upper abdomen and digestive region. These associations are spiritual in nature and should not be interpreted as medical diagnoses or indicators of illness.
How Reiki Supports the Solar Plexus Chakra
One of the most common misconceptions about chakra healing is the belief that every experience has one obvious energetic cause.
For example, someone struggling with confidence might immediately assume that their Solar Plexus Chakra requires healing. While this may certainly be part of the picture, the underlying energetic pattern could also involve the Root Chakra's themes of safety and security, the Sacral Chakra's emotional experiences, the Heart Chakra's themes of connection and self-compassion, or several energy centers working together.
This is why I don't approach Reiki by directing energy exclusively toward the Solar Plexus Chakra based on one symptom or experience. Instead, I allow Reiki to flow where it is most needed, trusting both the innate wisdom of your body and the natural intelligence of Reiki itself. The goal is to create a supportive environment where energetic balance can unfold according to your unique needs.
Sometimes the area that appears to need attention isn't where the deeper pattern begins. The entire energetic system can participate in the healing experience, allowing Reiki to support whatever areas may benefit most.
Ways to Support Overall Solar Plexus Chakra Wellness
Many people choose to support their overall sense of confidence, purpose, and empowerment through practices such as:
Setting healthy boundaries
Following through on commitments to yourself
Spending time in sunlight
Practicing mindful breathing
Journaling about personal goals
Making decisions based on your values
Engaging in physical movement
Practicing healthy self-discipline
Celebrating progress rather than demanding perfection
Moving forward with something that matters to you
Receiving Reiki as part of a holistic wellness practice
These practices are intended to support overall well-being and should never replace appropriate medical or mental health care.

A Final Thought
The Solar Plexus is where we begin to recognize the difference between knowing what we want and having the courage to stand behind it. Sometimes that means speaking honestly, making a difficult decision, or choosing differently than we did before.
Growth rarely happens all at once. It can happen in the moments when we honor our values, listen to our own judgment, and realize that we are no longer the person who once doubted what was possible. There comes a point when you stop waiting to feel ready and realize that you have already changed.
I know who I AM.
I trust myself.
I know what I AM capable of.
I AM ready to move forward.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Solar Plexus Chakra only about confidence?
No. Confidence is one aspect of the Solar Plexus Chakra, but its broader themes include will, self-trust, discernment, purpose, boundaries, transformation, and personal agency.
Does low confidence mean my Solar Plexus Chakra is out of balance?
Not necessarily. The chakra system is interconnected, and experiences such as self-doubt or insecurity can involve multiple energy centers or circumstances unrelated to the chakra system. Chakra associations can provide a framework for reflection but should not be treated as a diagnosis.
Can Reiki focus only on the Solar Plexus Chakra?
Although Reiki may naturally flow toward areas that would benefit from support, I do not force Reiki toward one chakra based solely on a particular symptom or experience. Reiki is offered to the energetic system as a whole.
Do I need to feel powerful for Solar Plexus Chakra work to be meaningful?
No. Exploring the Solar Plexus Chakra can provide space to reflect on self-trust, boundaries, decision-making, confidence, purpose, and personal agency.
Can I explore the Solar Plexus Chakra if I am new to Reiki?
Absolutely. You don't need previous Reiki experience or extensive knowledge of the chakra system to explore these practices. Curiosity and an openness to self-reflection are enough to begin.
